Where there is death....there is life

Recently our family has been going through many deaths, so we decided it was time for us to introduce new life in their place. In doing so we set out to find a mare to breed to our lovely gypsy stallion MH Jack Sparrow, we placed ads online in the news paper and in the local shops. It took a couple months but finally Kayla contacted us stating she had the perfect mare for our stallion, and truthfully she was indeed perfect! TLM Mystique arrived on a very snowy day, and Jack was standing in his private pasture by the gate the instant the trailer pulled up! As Ambree led Mysti up to the barn he rushed the gate huffing and sniffing at the new mare.


We put her into a stall for a couple days so she could get adjusted to our staff, surroundings and all the other horses on the property. Including Jack who during the day was in a stall across from her's for a few hours at a time. She seemed to do quiet well, despite the barn cats that would pounce onto her hind end and spook her from time to time she adjusted well.


The first time Mysti and Jack were put into the pasture together, it was a short fight over domiance. Our entire staff was on site to ensure neither mare nor stallion got harmed. The moment Jack wen't to bite, Ambree rushed him causing him to spook away to the other side of the pasture long enough for the rest of the staff to quickly get Mysti back into her stall and look her over. Of course she was fine, and this continued for about two weeks with them in the pasture.


After about a month the two finally began to get along, and able to stand being in the same pasture together. Another week and we couldn't tear them apart. It was then that we realized they had finally developed that "bond" with one another. After a couple of hours of getting the two apart our vet was able to determine that Mysti was in fact pregnant!!!!


We left the two in the pasture together during the day until she was bigger then a barn, then we moved her into the pasture across from Jack so there would be no harsh playing or fighting to put the foal at risk. We caught her one day sniffing at her belly as if to say "Why is it so big!!!!" we all had a good laugh because every time a member of staff, other then Ambree, walked by she rushed the fence and tried to bite and kick. Yep, she was pissed over the entire thing!


Ambree enjoyed sitting out in the pasture with her on some days when it wasn't to cold to sit in the snow, it was a freak blizzard up in the mountians despite it almost being june! Today however we caught Ambree and Mysti under the tree. The big mare had decided to lay down and tuck her nose into Ambree's coat as if to say "Keep me warm, this is your fault!"


As it got closer, the vet checks happened every few hours. The staff got the camera in her stall set up and hooked to the office and house so no matter where we were we could monitor the mare. Then it happened! Up and Down and turning around the big mare began to show signs that today was the day! Our first image capture was of the pretty lady laying down in her stall.


Of course, Ambree couldn't stay away from the mare. She hid behind the stall door to check on the mare seeing as cameras could "Glitch up" according to her excuse for it. Mysti was up again and pacing her stall, she looked so tired but Ambree knew the rules. Unless it was a must, she was not to go into that stall!


Ambree came running into the office and shook our stable hand Killian awake screaming she's here! It's a filly! It's a filly! Well leave it to a man to not capture the images of the birth, we did however manage to capture the little filly's first nurse and Mysti licking at her hindquarters. A beautiful little black tobiano (current coat is temp while her real one is imported sorry!).


After a few days inside the warm barn, we let Mysti and Martinique out into a pasture to stretch their legs and let the Marti see just how big the world was, she was overly excited and Mysti had to try to keep up with her energetic little foal. And just like her mama, Ambree was her full time baby sitter!
